What is this event for?
In preparation for the Battery Innovation Round 1 funding competition, which will open on 23rd October 2025, we are hosting this webinar to share details on the scope, eligibility and application process.
Where does the funding originate from?
Innovate UK, part of UK Research and Innovation, is delivering the Battery Innovation Programme on behalf of the Department for Business and Trade. The programme will invest up to £20 million in innovation projects.
What is the funding for?
To support UK battery sector through empowering and increasing the speed of innovation development, supporting local supply chain, encouraging new entrants to the industry, and business growth aiming future global market competitiveness. There will be two strands, both closing 17 December 2025:
About the competition
The aim of this competition is to:
- Accelerate the development and commercialisation of state-of-the-art battery technologies in the UK
- Support the growth of the UK battery supply chain and related companies
- Enhance the UK’s competitiveness in the global battery market
- Demonstrate how battery technologies can meet specific application requirements and drive electrification across diverse sectors

Briefing event: 29 October 2025 (10am – 11.30am, online)
Additional Q/A Surgery: 5 November 2025 (11am – 12pm, online)
Competition closes: 17 December 2025 (11am)
