Aligning local government and industry Net Zero opportunities while supporting firms in Northern Ireland’s Mid South West to seize them.

In Northern Ireland’s Mid South West region, a collaboration between Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council, Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, and Mid Ulster District Council, known as the Mid South West Economic Engine, is turning Net Zero opportunities into practical support for businesses.

Representing over a third of Northern Ireland’s companies, many in high-emitting sectors, they found most firms lacked Net Zero plans due to gaps in finance, knowledge and skills.

With programme funding, the Mid South West Economic Engine appointed a Net Zero Innovation and Delivery Officer to coordinate local government and industry priorities.

This led to Net Zero Opportunity Assessment plans for agri-food, advanced manufacturing & engineering, and construction, as well as direct support for 90 local businesses through webinars and events.
