Council to community carbon literacy

Lead Organisation

Warrington Borough Council

Location

North West

Warrington is turning its Net Zero goal into opportunities by improving Carbon Literacy within the council, local businesses and communities.

In 2022, Warrington Borough Council set a 2030 Net Zero target, but this required a better understanding of the benefits within the council and community.

With Net Zero Living support, they appointed Robyn Lees as Net Zero Innovation and Delivery Officer and partnered with the Association for Public Sector Excellence to support their Warrington Carbon Culture initiative.

Thanks to this, over 500 staff have completed Carbon Literacy training, with 40 officers forming cross-department action groups.

Change is already visible, from Children’s Services creating a climate plan to Net Zero now shaping everyday decisions.

With learnings from other Local Authorities in the Net Zero Living network, Warrington Carbon Culture is expanding to local businesses and Parish Councils through tailored training and toolkits.
