Agentic AI Pioneers Prize Ceremony: Accelerating British Innovation in AI

The Agentic AI Pioneers Prize ceremony brought together leading minds from industry, policy, and research, spotlighting the UK’s ambition to set the pace in responsible, transformative AI. Delivered by Innovate UK in partnership with the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT), the event championed agentic AI’s role in reshaping critical sectors and underscored the collaborative, cross-sector drive powering the UK’s modern industrial strategy.

Held against a backdrop of anticipation and optimism, the ceremony’s agenda blended strategic perspectives with tangible case studies, fostering engaging discussions among participants, further illustrating the practical influence of agentic AI.

Opening remarks from David Smith, National Technology Advisor – Department for Science, Innovation and Technology and Nick Jennings, Vice Chancellor and President of Loughborough University set a clear agenda: agentic AI is a catalyst for sustainable growth and genuine competitive advantage. David Smith called for joined-up action and robust ethics, while Nick Jennings pointed to the UK’s thriving AI ecosystem and its capacity to solve real-world challenges. Their vision set the stage for a day of action and optimism.

A panel chaired by Gary Cutts, Executive Director for Digital and Technologies at Innovate UK explored the immense potential and real hurdles of deploying agentic AI. Ian Marr, Modelling & Simulation Scientist at Airbus, Claude Charest, Senior Machine Learning Engineer from Faculty AI and Steve Belford, Enterprise Innovation Architect from Channel 4 discussed AI’s role in automating tasks, driving co-creation, and orchestrating complex systems.

The conversations tackled regulatory assurance, explainability, and workforce integration making clear: opportunity and responsibility go hand in hand.

Celebrating British innovation

The awards showcased three standout companies exemplifying agentic AI’s potential.

Danu Insights – winner in Health & Life Science category and overall winner of the Agentic AI Prize, for its Digital Twin Builder accelerating life sciences R&D through intelligent modelling and experiment design.

Singular Machine – winner of the Advanced Manufacturing category for coEngen, a multi-agent engineering platform that brings disciplines together through a shared data model, enabling rapid, traceable optimisation of complex systems.

Tellme – winner of the Creative Industries category for a solution that delivers real-time, adaptive museum experiences via visitors’ smartphones, transforming how visitors engage with exhibits through personalised, accessible interpretation.

The winners’ panel sessions went deeper, with Danu Insights focused on transforming life sciences R&D, Singular Machine highlighting reduced design timescales and improved safety, and Tellme championing accessible, personalised visitor experiences. Across the board, validation, transparency, and user-centred design emerged as core principles for scaling agentic AI’s benefits.
