The problem and opportunity

One in five pupils in England now has special educational needs, but support is under severe strain. High needs funding has reached nearly £11 billion, which the National Audit Office judges unsustainable. Most are supported by one class teacher with no assistant, so the help they need for memory, attention and organisation rarely reaches them, harming attainment, confidence and mental health.

The solution and innovation

Recallify uses AI to turn a learner’s own lesson content into personalised learning support. A student records a lesson, photographs the whiteboard or uploads notes, and receives transcripts, summaries, flashcards and quizzes based on what their teacher taught. An adaptive agent learns which topics each learner finds hard and surfaces the right revision at the right moment.

Market and ambition

Recallify’s consumer app is live, supporting over 3,000 users, with pre-seed backing from Bethnal Green Ventures and NIHR research funding. Recallify is now being introduced to schools through multi-academy trusts, with the ambition to grow adoption steadily over the coming years.

Founder perspective

Dr Sarah Rudebeck is a Senior Clinical Psychologist with 15 years’ NHS experience and a PhD in memory disorders. She built Recallify after seeing the same problem repeatedly in clinic: the support she recommended rarely reaching pupils who needed it. Dyslexic herself, she saw early what assistive technology offers.
