The problem and opportunity

UK pension funds must vote at thousands of company meetings on issues like pay, climate and equality. However, for segregated mandates (54% of assets) they face an all-or-nothing choice: vote on everything at high cost, or hand every decision to their fund manager. Today’s tools are manual emails and spreadsheets. As a result, many disengage, weakening stewardship and cutting support for votes savers would back. Costs fall on beneficiaries.

The solution and innovation

Tumelo’s platform already helps 50+ institutional investors run shareholder voting. Its newest innovation replaces the all-or-nothing model with collaborative voting for segregated mandates: asset owners keep the votes that matter to them and delegate the rest, within the same ballot process, with permissions and audit trails. AI analyses primary sources like company filings to support material votes – transparently, with a human in the loop.

Market and ambition

Around 1,000 UK asset owners (20,000 globally) face regulatory and beneficiary pressure to vote their own way, representing a ~£100m incremental market. Amundi has already committed to onboarding eight asset owners post-launch. Over three years, we aim to scale pilots into commercial deployment in the UK and abroad.

Founder perspective

Georgia Stewart co-founded Tumelo to give savers a voice in how the companies they own are run. An advocate for shareholder democracy, she sits on Aviva’s Independent Governance Committee and speaks widely on stewardship – driven to help make voting influence real for the people whose money is invested.
