The problem and opportunity
Construction and packaging still rely heavily on petrochemical, mineral-based and synthetic materials that are carbon-intensive, difficult to recycle and often imported. This affects manufacturers, specifiers, building users and the wider economy, while low-value British wool delivers poor returns to farmers. With wool products still largely limited to textiles and soft insulation, there is a clear opportunity for a scalable rigid material platform.
The solution and innovation
Wull Technologies has developed LAMDA, a patent-pending rigid material made from 100% British sheep wool, with no plastic binders, synthetic fibres or added resins. Unlike conventional wool products, it can be formed into high-density panels and 3D components for construction and packaging. Its first commercial application, LAMDA Hush acoustic panels and baffles, has already been installed in a building in Manchester.
Market and ambition
LAMDA targets commercial interiors, construction and protective packaging. Its acoustic products have been installed in a Manchester building and are being trialled by a major acoustic pod manufacturer. Over the next three years, Wull Technologies aims to scale UK production, grow sales and launch additional applications.
Founder perspective
Ruth-Marie Mackrodt brings experience in finance, construction and natural materials manufacturing. After co-founding Wool Insulation Wales, she saw British wool’s wider potential. She is passionate about proving natural materials can be credible and scalable, while supporting UK manufacturing, farmers and a circular economy.
