This Innovate UK Business Connect webinar will introduce UK businesses and the wider innovation community to the opportunities emerging from neuromorphic and energy-efficient computing. Featuring the UKRI-funded NeuroWare, NeuMat, and NeuroSYNC initiatives, the session will explain the technology’s potential, highlight routes into the UK ecosystem and help attendees identify opportunities for collaboration, innovation and future commercial application.

About the event

Neuromorphic, or brain-inspired computing, is a highly energy efficient computational architecture. It could become a disruptive alternative to traditional computing methods, which rely heavily on energy-intensive data centres. Neuromorphic computing could be especially advantageous for artificial intelligence (AI) and edge computing applications like robotics and autonomous vehicles, while bringing together expertise in areas such as neuroscience, materials, computer science, electronics and software engineering.

The UK Government’s AI Hardware plan, announced in June 2026 and totalling over £1.1 billion of investment, sets out a path to enable the UK to develop AI hardware at pace. This would strengthen existing capabilities and recognises the need for the development of novel compute technologies such as neuromorphic, photonic and quantum computing systems.

Since 2025, UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) has funded three major UK initiatives in neuromorphic computing – NeuroWare, NeuMat, and NeuroSYNC. In this webinar you will hear how these organisations are helping to deliver the UK’s ambition for future compute technologies, and how you can get involved with these networks and benefit from the opportunities.

NeuroWare

An innovation and knowledge centre that supports the development and translation of neuromorphic computing hardware with representatives from industry, academia and policy organisations.

NeuMat

Connects academia and industry to drive the development of materials for neuromorphic computing and AI hardware.

NeuroSYNC

The UK’s Multidisciplinary Centre for Neuromorphic Systems and Computing aims to advance the development of sustainable neuromorphic computing technologies and AI systems.
