About the competition
The competition aims to accelerate the scale-up of bidirectional vehicle-to-everything (V2X) charging, enabling greater integration between electric vehicles and the energy system and increasing flexibility across the UK energy system.
The competition will address key challenges and opportunities for V2X, including:
- improving interoperability and standardisation
- tackling grid connection challenges and barriers to market entry
- improving cost parity
- scaling promising V2X use cases that can increase flexibility while supporting lower emissions, resilience, affordability and equity
The Scaling Interoperable V2X competition forms part of the Consumer Led Flexibility Challenge within the Clean Energy Superpower Mission (CESM), which aims to enable at least 2GW of additional flexibility by 2030. CESM is part of the UKRI Missions Accelerator Programme.
The competition is relevant to organisations across the V2X ecosystem, including vehicle OEMs, DNOs and DSOs, energy suppliers, flexibility providers, fleet operators, charge point operators and manufacturers, software providers and local authorities.
Applications are invited for collaborative projects, from consortia spanning the V2X value chain which contain partners keen to accelerate the provision of EV flexibility for the UK energy system by 2030.
