David Calder
Knowledge Transfer Manager - Health & Care
I am responsible for health and care at Innovate UK Business Connect. I am an Engineer with a 15-year background in manufacturing and new product development gained primarily with Philips and Parker Hannifin.
My career moved to a Research and Technology Organisation (TWI Ltd) running projects from £10,000 business consultancy services to £1m+ technology programmes across most industrial sectors. This portfolio included Knowledge Transfer for Innovate UK’s £50m Assisted Living Innovation Platform (ALIP) and support to the Delivering Assisted Living Lifestyles At Scale (DALLAS) programme through to 2012. This activity emphasised health and care in particular with regard to ageing populations and I subsequently joined the newly formed Knowledge Transfer Network (KTN) in April 2014.
My role is to support innovative and high growth potential SMEs navigate the complex world of health and care plus the ultra-dynamic consumer markets for ‘digital health’. I have a powerful network with connections into NHS and other innovation eco-systems, which enable me to support businesses from a range of technical and market backgrounds to bring about positive change in the provision of services to patients and citizens.
