Competitiveness, supply chains and engaging with policy change in the food and drink industry
KTN’s Head of Agri-Food, Dr Jayne Brookman, will speak at a Westminster Food & Nutrition Forum Keynote Seminar on 13th December in London.
Policymakers are currently considering responses to the major consultations on the future of agricultural policy across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. With the Prime Minister heralding a raft of policy including environment and agriculture bills in preparation for a UK exit from the European Union, this could be a time of substantial change and uncertainty for the UK food and drink industry.
Westminster Forum Projects¬†are hosting a seminar on “Priorities for the UK food and drink industry – competitiveness, supply chains and engaging with policy change” on¬†Thursday, 13th December 2018 in¬†Central London, with the aim of¬†discussing the latest thinking in this area.

The agenda of this seminar will focus on:
- Competitiveness - meeting the challenges of evolving markets and adapting to any future regulatory changes
- Workforce - ensuring the UK has a workforce with the skills that the industry, its partners and wider society need
- Research - knowledge transfer, building partnerships and supporting translation of the UK’s world-leading food research into practice
- Supply chain management - engaging with and securing the supply chain, safeguarding standards and supporting UK agriculture
- International relationships and trade - the impact of different trading scenarios, key issues for the meat and live exports sectors, and promoting produce abroad.
KTN’s Head of Agri-Food, Dr Jayne Brookman, will speak on the topic of “The future of food research – knowledge transfer and partnerships”.¬†Jayne has a broad knowledge of the Agri-Food industries within the UK. Prior to joining KTN, Jayne lectured in Biotechnology at the University of Manchester before developing a number of start-ups in agriculture and life sciences. She enjoys working between the research base, government and industry to maximise the effectiveness of innovation support into the sector.
The agenda includes a keynote address from Sally Warren (Director, Agri-Food Chain, Defra) as well as further speaking contributions from Nick Allen (British Meat Processors Association), Angela Coleshill (Food and Drink Federation), John Davies (NFU Cymru), Justine Fosh (The National Skills Academy for Food & Drink), Tom Hind (AHDB) and Tim Lang (City, University of London).
