Could 3D Printing be useful for your business? - East Midlands

Posted on: 29/05/2018

A two part series of events has been planned for the East Midlands to show companies the benefits of using 3D printing and additive manufacturing.

Building on the success of the first 3D Printing Week in the East of England in April (watch short video), KTN is pleased to announce another series of events Рthis time in the East Midlands - to show businesses there how 3D printing and additive manufacturing can help them.

The University of Nottingham‚Äôs Professor Phill Dickens will present the business benefits of 3D printing at events in Nottingham on 18th June and Ilkeston on 22nd June. Local companies will also describe how they’re adopting this emerging technology, and delegates will have the opportunity to see 3D printing in action with live demonstrations.

Additive manufacturing, or 3D printing, produces 3-dimensional objects by layering materials such as metals, composites and polymers, rather than machining parts from blocks of raw material.

Prof. Dickens said: “Additive manufacturing presents a wide range of benefits for businesses including the ability to make complex structures and prototypes, personalise products, reduce waste and improve quality. We will show delegates the business benefits over conventional manufacturing as well as the limitations. No prior knowledge or experience of using additive manufacturing is necessary.”

The events have been organised by the Knowledge Transfer Network’s Additive Manufacturing Special Interest Group (AM SIG), which aims to promote new knowledge transfer in the field of additive manufacturing, for the benefit of UK economic growth. The SIG also works to highlight to companies the wealth of support available locally to help them exploit the opportunities of AM. This can include specialist advice, funding, ‘fab labs’ and other facilities.
