Details and Agenda Released for the SiLA/ELRIG Workshop at Drug Discovery 2018
Drug Discovery 2018 will be taking place on October 9th and 10th at ExCel Arena in London.
As part of the programme, there shall be a workshop hosted by Standardisation in Lab Automation (SiLA) and the European Laboratory Research and Innovation Group (ELRIG) titled “Closing the loop in the Lab using Artificial Intelligence” on Tuesday October 9th from 14.00 – 17.30 in the “Platinum Suite”. Chaired by Patrick Courtney (SiLA) and Kevin Teburi (Genedata), the session shall focus on medicinal chemistry/new small molecules as well as screening. This will encompass several topics for discussion, including accelerating drug discovery through automation, activity-directed synthesis, and smarter screening, amongst several other areas, with speakers from the likes of AstraZeneca, Leeds University, Imperial College and Lundbeck Pharma.
Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools are starting to become established in pharmaceutical research and life sciences more generally Рwith some 69% of companies in the sector using AI and related techniques. Typical uses include mining images and other large data sets for new insights. The possibility is now emerging to use AI to help plan the next experiment – ‘to close the loop’ – for faster and better results. This workshop brings together experts in the lab and AI, to look at closing the loop with AI for two applications: Screening and Chemical synthesis. The following questions shall be addressed: What is possible now? What have the experiences been? What are the pitfalls? And finally, (and perhaps most importantly) how can I benefit?
The workshop shall be an interactive session, led by industry experts, where cases and overviews shall be presented from a range of scientists. There will be plenty of time for questions and debate as well as presentations on innovative developments in the field.
