Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is one the biggest threats to global health and food security today. The improvident use of antibiotics in clinical settings and animal husbandry has been the key driver for the rise of AMR and is a major concern for both developed and developing countries.

Innovate UK KTN together with UK Science and Innovation (UK SIN) in US, will deliver a Global Expert Mission (GEM), bringing together key stakeholders from the UK and USA to exchange knowledge and showcase developments in antimicrobial resistance (AMR). The purpose of the GEM is to deep-dive in the country’s research and innovation ecosystem by engaging with leading experts in the field to support key programmes in the UK and to ensure continued leadership in the area.

The GEM will explore areas that are critical to circumvent the rise of AMR in humans and animals (livestock) by focussing on three key topics

i) Diagnostics

ii) Therapeutics including vaccines and

iii) Surveillance
(Environmental).

Innovate UK KTN will bring together a group of UK experts to engage with leading businesses and academics in the US to explore areas for collaboration. The GEM provides a platform for businesses, universities and government agencies to engage with key stakeholders from the AMR community in the UK and the US, with the aim of fostering long-term collaboration and partnership.

The team are looking forward to expanding international collaborations and will report back next month! Follow us on Twitter: @KTN_Global and #AMRinUS.
