Energy Catalyst Round 6 - workshops in Glasgow and London

Posted on: 07/09/2018

DFID are looking for energy projects to meet needs in Sub-Saharan Africa or South Asia. Workshop sessions: London 18th Sept, Glasgow 20th Sept.

Background: Funded by The Department for International Development (DFID) and the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC), this round of funding specifically focused on innovation projects to encourage technology that will help countries in Sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia access secure, low cost and low carbon energy. Part of the funding is reserved for transformative bioenergy projects that help unlock lower-rated (between approximately 10kW and 5MW) productive-use bioenergy in Sub-Saharan Africa.

The aim of this competition is to support highly innovative, market-focused energy solutions in any technology or sector or international market. To be in scope for this round your project must meet the needs of people, businesses and services in Sub-Saharan Africa or South Asia.

Basic details about the scheme were provided in two brokerage events which were held in Birmingham and Manchester in August. You can find the materials from these events here, and the recording from the Birmingham event here.

More information on the competition can be found online here.

Applicant Workshops: These two further workshops being held in London and Glasgow build on the initial brokerage events and offer a programme of more targeted support, information and networking for those intending to apply.

These interactive sessions are being organised by the LCEDN (Low Carbon Energy for Development Network) and the KTN and will include:

  • further information and discussions around the new gender and social impact elements to the application form,
  • opportunities to liaise with potential consortium partners,
  • trouble-shooting application form sessions,
  • live link-ups with overseas partners,
  • presentations from those with previous experience of EC projects and/or research and innovation projects in Africa and Asia.

Pitches: There will be opportunities for participants to make pitches and to raise particular issues around gender and social inclusion aspects that they would like to see covered in the programme. Please select this option on the registration form to express your interest.

Overseas Participation: There is an opportunity for those based overseas to join remotely and present a pitch to the UK audience. Please select the ‘Remote Pitch Presenter (Overseas)’ ticket when registering.

Register for the London event on Tuesday 18th September (9.30am-4pm)

Register for the Glasgow event on Thursday 20th September (9.30am-4pm)
