Finding innovative veterinary solutions for antimicrobial resistance

A global competitive call has recently launched for research proposals to reduce antimicrobial resistance (AMR) in poultry, swine, and aquaculture.

The International Development Research Centre (IDRC), a Canadian Crown corporation, and the UK’s Global AMR Innovation Fund (GAMRIF), part of the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC), have launched a global competitive call for research proposals to reduce antimicrobial resistance (AMR) in poultry, swine, and aquaculture animals.

This funding opportunity will support research on innovative veterinary solutions to reduce therapeutic and prevent non-therapeutic antimicrobial use by farmers in developing countries, with successful projects receiving up to CA$3 million for no more than 33 months.

The InnoVet-AMR initiative is divided into two themes focused on reducing the use of antibiotics in the livestock (poultry and swine) and aquaculture sectors in low and middle income countries. The main goal of both themes is to develop innovative veterinary solutions, focusing on product development, to reduce the therapeutic (prevention and control) and non-therapeutic (growth promotion) use of antibiotics, while still protecting animal health and welfare.
