Mayor of London Launches ¬£1 Million Air Quality Business Fund to Tackle Capital’s Air Pollution.

The Mayor of London has secured £1 million in capital funding from the UK Government to support businesses in delivering five Business Low Emission Neighbourhoods (LENs) in order to reduce emissions and improve local opportunities for walking and cycling.

The Mayor’s Air Quality Business Fund has been established to enable businesses to benefit from new green areas for staff and customers, low emission vehicle infrastructure, or support to set up a zero emission home delivery service.

The Fund will help to realise improvements that aim to make local areas more pleasant for customers and staff to walk and cycle in, as well as helping businesses to reduce their emissions and running costs.

£1 million is available in total for this programme. The Greater London Authority will support up to five businesses or business groups (including Business Improvement Districts) in London with up to £200,000 each to deliver a Business LEN in their street or area.

The funding is capital-only, so can only be spent on permitted capital interventions. Capital funding only covers equipment, infrastructure and installation. For example:

– Electric vehicle charging points.
РGreen infrastructure (plants are permissible as long as they will form part of a new structure/container – standalone plants/trees are not defined as capital).
– Permanent signage.
– Street furniture, such as cycle stands.

The deadline for submitting an Expression of Interest is 1 August 2017.
