NHS Innovation Accelerator Now Open for Applications
The NHS Innovation Accelerator has launched an international call for high-impact innovations to join its fourth cohort.
A new search has been launched to find the world’s best healthcare innovations to help improve patients’ lives. This NIA international call focuses on key NHS priorities including mental health, primary care, and prevention and early intervention in cancer and cardiovascular disease. The NHS Innovation Accelerator (NIA) is a national accelerator supporting dedicated individuals (‘Fellows’) to scale their high impact, evidence-based innovations across the NHS and wider healthcare system.
The NIA will be recruiting up to 12 ‘Fellows’ (dedicated individuals) representing high-impact, evidence-based innovations, sourced both nationally and internationally. These innovations shall be addressing one or more of the following themes:
1.     Mental Health
2.     Primary Care
3.     Prevention and Early Intervention in cancer and cardiovascular disease.
The 4th Call, now open until 24th October 2018, aims to recruit up to 12 new Fellows. These Fellows will be exceptional individuals with a passion and commitment for scaling innovation for greater patient benefit, and for sharing their learnings widely. The Call is open to local, national and international health and industry innovators, SMEs, charity/third sector, clinicians and academics.
The call is suitable for applicants who have an innovation which addresses one or more of the call themes, which demonstrates outcomes for lower cost, and which is supported by an evidence base and is ready to be diffused across the NHS. Additionally, if you have a passion for learning and sharing your insights, as well as being committed to scaling evidence-based innovations for patient, NHS staff and population benefit, then the NIA is suitable for you.
Launched in July 2015 the NIA aims to help create the conditions and cultural change necessary for innovations to be adopted fasted in the NHS; it also aims to deliver innovation into practice for patient and population benefit. Since its launch, the accelerator has supported 36 Fellows, with £45m raised in external funding, 226 jobs created and 21 innovations selling internationally.
As part of an annual international call, the NIA invites applications from exceptional individuals representing innovations which address clear needs and challenges faced by the NHS. All innovations selected to join the NIA undergo a robust, competitive, multi-stage process involving a college of expert assessors drawn from a wide range of organisations including NHS England, NHS Digital, AHSNs, the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) and The Health Foundation.
