Opportunities for the chemical supply chain in battery manufacture for electric vehicles

Innovate UK, KTN & WMG are organising a networking event on 26 September to bring together the chemical sector and automotive battery supply chain.

A recent report by E4tech (commissioned by WMG at the University of Warwick and delivered in partnership with the Chemistry Growth Partnership and KTN) revealed that the UK electric vehicle (EV) battery industry could be worth £2.7 billion per year for UK chemical companies.

The third round of R&D funding under the Faraday Battery Challenge presents a fantastic opportunity for companies in the chemical sector to work with the automotive sector and other innovators in the supply chain to develop novel chemicals, materials and processes that will ultimately help to de-risk future investments in automotive battery manufacture.

Networking Event – Wednesday 26th September 2018, 13:00-16:00, Sunderland

Registration is now open for an exciting half-day event on 26th September in Sunderland, hosted by Innovate UK, KTN & WMG with the aim of bringing together innovators from the chemical sector and innovators in the automotive battery supply chain to:

• Understand more about the findings of the E4tech report and the opportunity for chemical companies to enter the emerging automotive battery supply-chain
• Hear from industry leaders in the automotive sector about the size of the opportunity and the challenges they face
• Develop ideas and start to build partnerships with other companies for potential collaborative bids into Faraday Battery Challenge Round 3
• Hear from leaders in the chemicals sectors about their experiences of the Faraday Battery Challenge
• Learn hints and tips on how to write a winning grant proposal
• Network and help develop new relationships in the chemicals-battery-auto supply chain

This event will be of benefit to:

• Business Development and technical leads from the chemical industry who are interested to learn more about the EV battery opportunity and those considering grant funding through the Faraday Battery Challenge
• Business Development and technical leads from the battery and automotive supply chain who are keen to engage with the chemicals sector
• Researchers working on the development of chemicals/ materials for EV batteries.
