STFC B4I Chemical Sector Roadshow Preview
Access to STFC’s world-class science facilities could be just what you need to boost your company’s productivity and competitiveness.
The Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC) are hosting an event on Wednesday 17th October at the Centre for Process Innovation (CPI) to show how STFC can help address the current challenges in the chemical sector.
This event offers companies who need to overcome challenging problems that restrict their potential productivity and competitiveness an opportunity to discuss your challenge with world leading scientists and understand how to access leading edge research infrastructure.
Speakers at the event include Jeremy Shears (Chief Scientist at Shell), Paul Collier (Research Manager at Johnson Matthey), Professor Adam Kowalski (Unilever), Ken Lewtas (Director at Lewtas Science & Technologies) and KTN’s Head of Chemistry and Industrial Biotechnology, Steve Fletcher. The event will offer the opportunity to learn about funding, discuss your challenges with world-leading scientists, understand how to access cutting-edge research infrastructure, and hear about grand challenges for the chemical sector. The event will also include a facility tour at CPI’s cutting-edge laboratories, as well as networking opportunities.

Bridging 4 Innovators (B4I) funding is now available to support UK Industry in boosting productivity. B4I is a programme run by STFC to support UK industry to overcome challenging, manufacturing or process performance. Accessing STFC’s unique laboratories and engaging with world class researchers will allow industry to develop projects that address specific challenges that face individual businesses.
STFC is a multidisciplinary research organisation and operates large-scale national laboratories with key experimental and computational capabilities relevant to the chemical industry, including:
- Understanding the mechanisms of chemical and biological synthesis
- Characterising the properties of products and intermediates
- Studying production processes, including catalytic systems
- Investigating the structure, properties and effects of formulated products, such as coatings and sealants, cleaning products, pharmaceuticals and agrochemicals
- Interpreting large datasets to drive decision making (AI knowledge base)
