Superb expert speakers scheduled for 'Advanced Materials Opportunities in Energy – An International Perspective' event on November 24th
‘Advanced Materials Opportunities in Energy ‚Äì An International Perspective’: 9.30am, 24 Nov 2017 at the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining
The Knowledge Transfer Network, in partnership with Innovate UK, is delighted to host the ¬†‘Advanced Materials Opportunities in Energy ‚Äì An International Perspective’ event on Friday, 24 November 2017 at 9:30 am at the Institute of Materials, Minerals & Mining, Euston Road, London.
This event will bring together industry and researchers to discuss challenges and priorities in Energy Materials, and to gain international input.
A superb line up of speakers are scheduled to speak including:
Robert Quarshie, Head of Materials, Knowledge Transfer Network
Robert leads all materials activities at KTN. He was a key member of the Materials Innovation and Growth Team (Mat IGT) that developed the UK Strategy for Materials, and previously worked as Senior Technology Advisor for BIS. A materials technologist and business school graduate, Robert has more than twenty years’ industry experience working in polymeric and metallic coatings for steel and aluminium, including senior management roles at Tata Steel. Robert also leads the Graphene and 2D Materials Special Interest Group.
Fabrice Stassin, MD, EMIRI – views from European industry on Energy Materials opportunities
EMIRI (the Energy Materials Industrial Research Initiative) represents more than 60 organizations (industry, research, associations) active in Advanced Materials for low carbon energy technologies. The association contributes to industrial leadership of developers and producers of Advanced Materials by shaping an appropriate innovation, manufacturing and energy policy framework at European level. Low carbon energy (LCE) technologies (energy performance in buildings, energy capture & storage, decarbonization) are developing fast and represent an important opportunity for Europe-based industry of advanced materials. EMIRI estimates our Europe-based industry today at 30 billion euro yearly revenues, over 500.000 direct & indirect jobs and close to 3 billion euro of yearly investment in R&D and capital expenditures. In frame of Horizon 2020, EMIRI collaborates with European Commission to develop the Innovation Pillar on Advanced Materials for low carbon energy proposed in the EMERIT Industry-Driven Initiative.
Jacqui Murray, Innovate UK - Developments in the UK: The Faraday Challenge
A specialist in automotive steels, regulation and transformational change.¬† Jacqui’s advanced materials background comes from the UK Steel industry and degrees in Materials Engineering.¬† Following her MBA, she moved into industrial environmental regulation policy for the Environment Agency and Welsh Government.¬† She’s bringing three years of programme management experience to the Advanced Materials team to refresh our strategy on how material innovation contributes to UK growth.
Kalyan Sarma, Innovate UK - The NMBP Funding Opportunities for Energy Material
Kaylan provides advice and support for UK organisations interested in applying into the Horizon 2020 European programme. His specific area covers Nanotechnologies and Advanced Materials calls. Prior to joining Innovate UK he worked for a Singaporean based technology incubator. Much of his recent experience has been around early stage technology commercialisation and evolution of existing technology to emerging markets.
Objectives:
1. Identify major challenges where Advanced Materials can enable new innovations in the Energy sector.
2. Prioritise opportunities for Energy Materials for the UK
3. Gain international input on opportunities for Energy
