Supporting market opportunities for goods and services for the ageing population

Posted on: 12/07/2017

As life expectancy increases and society undergoes demographic change, the “Silver Economy” will play an important role in economic growth.

Many markets, including health and nutrition, leisure and wellbeing, finance and transport, housing, education and employment are adjusting to the needs of the ageing population.

Allia, a charity that supports individuals and organisations who create social benefit, is working with partners in France, Holland and Belgium to find ways to help older people stay in their homes longer, safely and independently.

If you supply goods and services for Europe’s fastest growing customer segment – people over the age of 50 – and if you are located in one of the project key regions (e.g. along the southeast and southern coast of the UK) you might benefit from inclusion on their Silver Economy Map. A short application form is available from Lorraine Morley (lorraine.morley@allia.org.uk).

The SEAS 2 Grow – Silver Economy Accelerating Strategies project aims to develop a cross-border innovation accelerator for the silver economy. Their innovation accelerator programme targets businesses with a focus on new products and services for the growing older population.

These innovations and their creators can benefit from de minimis awards of between Eur 25,000 and Eur 55,000. Successful applicants will begin their journey through a programme of testing, further functional and technical development of their product or service and help and advice from panels of elderly testers, innovation and industry experts and business advisors.

For more information on the SEAS 2 Grow silver economy innovation accelerator programme and to register your interest for the next intake please contact Lorraine Morley (lorraine.morley@allia.org.uk).

Registrations for wave 2 of the innovation accelerator programme close 28 August 2017.
