The 5G Testbeds and Trials Programme: Apply for grant funding between £2 million and £5 million
The 5G Testbeds and Trials Programme: Phase 1 is set to open on Monday 23 October 2017.
The competition aim is to encourage the development of a UK ‘5G ecosystem’ with technology and deployment, testbeds and trials to stimulate the development of 5G use cases and business models.
The Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) is investing up to £25 million as part of the overall £740 million of funding from the National Productivity Investment Fund for next-generation digital infrastructure.
Consortia are invited to come forward to bid for projects that will both develop 5G testbed facilities and demonstrate 5G use cases. Projects costs are expected to be between £2m to £5m and must be run to a successful conclusion between 1 April 2018 and 31 March 2019. A total of £25m is available in Phase 1, which is open from 23rd October 2017; more details on funding and eligibility here.
A consortium can consist of any size and type of partner and must be led by a UK organisation. Each consortium should have the skills and experience to build testbeds and undertake high-value trials. These will demonstrate potential innovative uses of 5G services.
