The Henry Royce Institute seeks nominations to its Strategic Facilities Advisory Board.

The Henry Royce Institute‘s Strategic Facilities Advisory Board (SFAB) oversees investment at the national institute for advanced materials research and innovation. The role of SFAB is to advise the Royce‚Äôs Governing Board, CEO and Chief Scientist to ensure that the UK achieves and maintains a world-leading status in advanced materials and that the Royce‚Äôs vision is sustainable and fits with the existing UK research landscape. The Royce is currently seeking nominations for membership of SFAB.

The Royce are looking for figures from industry and academia who have experience of innovation and collaboration, specifically individuals of international standing in an area of materials or related research, with a strong understanding of the UK funding landscape. SFAB members are drawn from across the Royce and its stakeholder groups, with applications welcomed from SMEs and larger company stakeholders. Those with knowledge of biopolymers, nuclear, metals/metals processing and metallurgy are desired as members of SFAB. The balance of activities will transition from scrutinising capital equipment/facilities bids and making recommendations on funding to the Governing Board through to monitoring that the materials community (both industrial and academic) is gaining appropriate access and is being well served by the Royce partners.

Duties of members of the Strategic Facilities Advisory Board include: making recommendations to the Governing Board on requests for capital; monitoring the levels of access, collaboration and the quality of service provided to Royce users; advising on gaps in the equipment infrastructure for UK materials research; advising on the use being made of funding to maximise the academic and industrial benefit; advising on the extent to which the Royce is being operated as an open innovation framework to the benefit of the UK and enhancing the reputation of the UK markets.

The deadline for nominations is 18th January 2019. New appointments will be made for a target commencement date of 4th March 2019.
