Follow Innovate UK on the latest Global Expert Mission in Sustainable Plastics to India
From 15th to 19th May 2023, Innovate UK in partnership with UKRI India and planning support from the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and WRAP, travels to the India to focus on potential markets for collaboration in Sustainable Plastics.
India has long been considered a friendly nation with similar world views to the UK and a strong trading partner. The Global Expert Mission (GEM) will explore the technology and innovation landscape of Indian collaboration partners in sustainable plastics, including feedstock availability, supply chain contacts, data management systems, compliance, and regulatory and policy frameworks.
India generates 9.4m tonnes of plastic each year, and there is a critical need to tackle the growing mismanaged plastics impact, estimated to stand at 2.5m tonnes per year in India by 2025. Given the scale of the plastic waste challenge in India, there is an urgency to explore bi- and multilateral innovation opportunities to deliver clean growth in the UK and Indian plastics industry, with a reduction in the most problematic plastic waste entering the environment.
In this context, Innovate UK will deliver an in-person Global Expert Mission in May 2023, where a group of UK experts will meet private and public sector organisations in the India to better understand the plastics supply and innovation landscape and explore the potential for collaboration in the sector.
The GEM will focus on plastic material feedstocks, chemical and advanced mechanical recycling technologies and processes, funding and investment support in different regions, circular plastics economy opportunities, and policy and regulatory frameworks.
The team are looking forward to expanding international collaborations and will report back next month. Follow us on Twitter: @KTN_Global and #SustainablePlasticsGEM.
