Our population’s needs are changing. How is health care keeping up?

We’re living longer and longer lives: thanks to advances in healthcare and healthier lifestyles, more than a third of babies born in the UK today can now expect to see their 100th birthday.

Medicine has found ways to prevent and treat diseases that were once an automatic death sentence – but as our population ages, there are increasing levels of chronic illness, such as diabetes or chronic pulmonary disease, that need to be managed, along with the opportunity for impactful innovation in monitoring and diagnostic tools.

KTN’s Head of Health, Terry O’Neill, joined us in our Innovation for the Nation studio this week to talk about just how much has changed in the world of health. We are already in the realm of gene and cell therapy and precision medicine. As Terry puts it: “We’re right at the beginning of the revolution.”
