Accelerating Net Zero Delivery: unlocking the benefits of climate action in UK city-regions
The Prospering from the Energy Revolution programme commissioned PwC to research the comparative benefits of taking a ‘place-based’ approach to climate actions.
The results were striking. The research found that reaching carbon reduction targets this way could deliver double the socio-economic benefits, at a third of the cost, compared with a national ‘one size fits all’ approach.
Building on the government’s net zero strategy, the study offers the missing piece of the puzzle in accelerating net zero delivery and unlocking the social and economic benefits of climate action in UK city-regions.
It presents novel research and data comparing the benefits from a spectrum of ‘place-specific’ and ‘place-agnostic’ approaches, including how to design and deliver climate action most cost-effectively.
The report, published in March 2022, is valuable for both local and national authorities. It makes a powerful economic case for local climate action and is designed to support the government in planning how place-based delivery could work.
