New UK-Nigeria Sustainable Construction Global Innovation Network launched
Innovate UK Global Alliance Africa is pleased to announce the launch of the UK-Nigeria Sustainable Construction Global Innovation Network – a dynamic platform dedicated to inspire and connect key stakeholders and industry leaders across the building and construction sector value chain.
The network is aimed at fostering an active bilateral UK-Nigeria collaboration by exploring emerging technologies and knowledge transfer solutions from sustainable circular innovations, to facilitate transformative environmental impact and amplify circular economy solutions across the two countries.
As the construction sector faces increasing challenges to reduce its environmental impact and adopt sustainable practices, the UK-Nigeria Sustainable Construction Global Innovation Network will play a pivotal role in bringing together stakeholders, experts, and innovators to address these pressing issues.
The network will centre on three main pillars which play a unique role in the Nigerian construction industry, with the aim to promote sustainability, innovation and enhanced collaboration between the UK and Nigeria construction sector players.
Pillar 1: Affordable Housing
Pillar 2: Sustainable Construction Materials, Safety and Energy Efficiency
Pillar 3: Construction Waste Management
These focus areas will enhance UK-Nigeria collaboration and partnerships, influence policy and regulation, increase accessibility to more sustainable and affordable housing/buildings, and advise people to adopt sustainable construction materials and practice.
In the UK, innovation plays a critical role in driving the country’s economic development. and a key part of the UK government’s commitment is working with its partner countries around the world in supporting innovation through solid partnerships thus we have the emergence of a UK-Nigeria Sustainable Construction Innovation Network to bridge the gap and foster sustainable development across the building and construction sector in both countries.
– Dr Nee-Joo Teh, Head of Global Alliance, Innovate UK KTN
The UK-Nigeria Sustainable Construction Global Innovation Network will adopt a multi-faceted approach, empowering participants with opportunities for:
1. Collaboration and Networking: The network will facilitate connections between industry leaders, research institutes, government agencies, and start-ups, fostering a vibrant community for exchanging ideas, insights, and experiences.
2. Research and Development: The network will actively support research and development initiatives aimed at identifying innovative approaches, technologies, and practices that minimise the carbon footprint and maximise sustainability in construction projects.
3. Knowledge Sharing and Capacity Building: Regular workshops, seminars, and educational programs will be conducted to enable knowledge sharing and capacity building within the construction industry. This will help ensure the adoption of sustainable practices and the dissemination of best-in-class methodologies.
4. Funding and Investment Opportunities: Participants will have access to information about funding and investment opportunities, enabling the translation of innovative ideas into tangible projects that drive sustainable construction practices.
The UK-Nigeria Sustainable Construction Global Innovation Network will serve as a catalyst for change, promoting the adoption of sustainable building processes and transforming the construction landscape in Africa. By bringing together the brightest minds and industry leaders, we aim to forge a future where sustainability is at the core of every construction project, fostering economic growth, protecting our environment, and enhancing the well-being of communities.
