Innovate UK hosts Nigeria to UK circular economy knowledge exchange tour
Follow Innovate UK Global Alliance Africa next week (5-9 February 2024) as we host a ‘Nigeria to UK’ circular economy knowledge exchange tour with a particular focus on sustainable construction and circular fashion.
Nigeria to UK Circular Economy tour agenda
This Nigeria to UK circular economy knowledge exchange tour includes a series of presentations, roundtable discussions, and site visits across England. Participants will examine the UK’s challenges, opportunities, and experiences in building sustainable ecosystems. Opportunities for joint research, development, and commercial partnerships between the UK and Nigeria will also be discussed.
The key objectives of this visit are to:
- Facilitate connections between Nigeria and the UK in the circular fashion, and sustainable construction sectors, fostering partnerships and collaborations.
- Foster learning between both countries on innovations.
- Collectively reflect on the strategies and focus areas of each of the organisations around enabling sustainability through innovation.
Here are the activities for the week:
Day 1
Fashion: On Monday 5 February, delegates arrive and will meet with AI4Fibres and a visit to Fashion Enter.
Day 2
Fashion: On Tuesday 6 February, we will co-host a workshop at De Montfort University, site visits at Shibori Masters, and Basic Premier.
Construction: Site Visit to ARUP, Meet with Reusefully
Day 3
Fashion: On Wednesday 7 February, we will co-host a workshop at Manchester Fashion Institute, and then a site visit at SWD Clothing.
Construction: The Sustainable Construction team will be hosting a networking session in London. The discussion will be focused on prospective opportunities that exist for UK-Nigeria collaborations in the construction sector, and the role that the network plays in facilitating a dynamic and high value UK-Nigeria innovation landscape.
Day 4
It is our networking day on Thursday 8 February in Birmingham for a Circular Economy Knowledge Exchange for both the fashion and construction delegation.
Day 5
The tour concludes today.
Fashion: Site visit at Blackhorse Lane shop, and lastly a meeting with the British Fashion Council.
Construction: Site visits to Agile Homes, and the Building Research Establishment (BRE).
The Knowledge Exchange is a valuable opportunity for both countries to gain insights and best practices on circular economy exploring new ways to drive innovation in its fashion and construction sectors. The tour forms part of the UK-Nigeria Circular Fashion, and also Sustainable Construction Global Innovation Networks, which are funded through the Innovate UK Global Alliance Africa project. The project aims to forge stronger UK-African partnerships and enhance bilateral market access, funding, and investment opportunities through innovation and knowledge exchange between the UK, Kenya, Nigeria, and South Africa.
