Registration is now open for the Smart Sustainable Plastic Packaging workshop on 6th September in Cardiff.
UKRI’s Smart Sustainable Plastic Packaging Challenge (SSPP) is working to make plastic packaging fit for a sustainable future. A £60 million five-year programme, it is the largest and most ambitious UK government investment to date in sustainable plastics research and innovation. It reflects the urgent need for action to reduce the environmental footprint of plastics and eradicate plastic pollution
With a packed agenda, this event will help participants to:
- Learn about the ground-breaking plastics innovation projects already funded in Wales and across the UK by the SSPP Challenge;
- Find out about SSPP’s plans for a new £2.5 million funding competition, how to apply and how to access support through KTN;
- Understand current Welsh Government policy developments and priorities related to plastic packaging waste;
- Get the low down on the business support available from Innovate Edge for companies looking to innovate and grow in this important space;
- Hear from and network with other innovators working on plastic packaging waste solutions,
- Develop collaboration opportunities and partnerships to encourage innovation, knowledge sharing and co-investment opportunities.

This event is open to any stakeholder in the plastic packaging supply chain interested, involved or innovating in the field of sustainable plastics, including packaging designers and manufacturers, brands and retailers, waste management companies, plastics converters, government and policy representatives, third sector organisations, NGOs, and academic research teams.

Am y digwyddiad
Mae Smart Sustainable Plastic Packaging Challenge (SSPP) UKRI yn gweithio tuag at sicrhau bod pecynnau plastig yn addas am ddyfodol cynaliadwy. Fel rhaglen pum mlynedd gwerth £60 miliwn, mae’r rhaglen hon yn yr un mwyaf amwys gyda’n graddfa uchaf y mae Llywodraeth y DU wedi buddsoddi mewn ymchwil plastigion cynaliadwy hyd yma. Adlewyrchai hyn yr angen brys sydd ar gymryd camau tuag at leihau ôl troed amgylcheddol plastigion a dileu llygredd plastig.
Gydag agenda gorlawn, bydd y digwyddiad hwn yn helpu cyfranogwyr i:
- Dysgu am y prosiectau arloesol ym maes plastigau sydd eisoes wedi’u hariannu yng Nghymru a ledled y DU gan sialens SSPP;
- Darganfod cynllun SSPP am gystadleuaeth ariannu newydd gwerth £2.5 miliwn, a sut i greu cais a chael cymorth drwy KTN;
- Deall datblygiadau polisi a blaenoriaethau sy’n ymwneud â gwastraff pecynnu plastig presennol Llywodraeth Cymru;

- Datblygu cyfleoedd a phartneriaethau cydweithio i annog arloesi, rhannu gwybodaeth a chyfleoedd cyd-fuddsoddi.
