We are hosting an event that will:

  • Showcase the innovation activity delivered as part of the FBC programme
  • Promote discussion with respect to the development of the UK battery innovation ecosystem
  • Facilitate networking as part of the Faraday Battery Challenge Round 5 Innovation competition

Webcast recording is now available

The Faraday Battery Challenge (FBC) was established in 2017 to ensure the UK prospers from the transition to battery electrification and to help secure the intellectual and physical supply chain for batteries in the UK. To do this, FBC has provided joined-up support to enable the design, development and deployment of better battery technologies in the UK. This has been achieved through the FBC’s three pillars:

  • Mission-driven, industry inspired battery research delivered by the Faraday Institution and supported by EPSRC
  • Business-led collaborative research and development projects supported by Innovate UK
  • Scale-up of battery innovations delivered by the UK Battery Industrialisation Centre and supported by APC.

The full event programme will comprise of:

  • An exhibition from across the portfolio of CR&D projects
  • A plenary programme of talks
  • A series of parallel sessions comprising talks and panel discussions
  • The opportunity for networking, in particular, to consolidate consortia for the Round 5
  • Innovation competition
  • Refreshments

We are also inviting expressions of interest from across the FBC programme and wider partners to present and/or exhibit on the day. Details of the exact programme and session titles will be released closer to the time. At present, we envisage parallel sessions will comprise some of the following topics:

  • Sustainability
  • Next generation technologies
  • Regulations and standards
  • Safety
  • Cells and materials
  • Modules and packs
  • Cross-sector batteries
  • Investors
  • Equality, diversity and inclusion
  • Skills, training and workforce development

Equality, diversity and inclusion is key for all Innovate UK KTN activities. This is mainly an in-person networking event; for those unable to attend, there will be an opportunity to join virtually some sessions of the event.
