Overview
The Circular Critical Materials Supply Chains programme, announced by the Department for Business and Trade, will support the development of resilient UK based supply chains for Rare Earth Elements.
The Circular Critical Materials Supply Chains programme will support the development of resilient UK based supply chains for Rare Earth Elements, with a focus on primary (mine to magnet) and secondary (End of Life to magnet) supply chains. You can learn more about Critical Materials, the Circular Critical Materials Supply Chains programme and its focus areas here. Innovate UK KTN will be hosting an online competition briefing on 5th April, 10.00 – 11.30 and an in-person networking event on 19th April, 10.00 – 16.00. Click here to register for the 19th April event.

Strand 1, feasibility studies
Strand 2, industrial research and experimental development
Background
The £15 million programme aims to support the development of innovation in primary (mine to magnet) and secondary (End of Life to magnet) supply chains for Rare Earth Elements. The programme will coordinate and deliver activities within the following areas; international collaboration, skills development, investment (public and private), policy advice and standards development.
To achieve this Innovate UK KTN are delivering a networking event which will connect all parts of the current and future supply chains.
You should attend these events if you or your organisation (industry, academia, public) has an interest in the following themes.
- Mining and up-stream: Novel and sustainable mining processes, separation processes, management of by-products
- Mid-stream: Novel and sustainable mid-stream processes, increased efficiency in processing to rare earth metals, novel and sustainable routes to rare earth alloys
- Down-stream and magnet manufacture: Novel and sustainable manufacturing routes to high performance magnets, increased technical specification of high-performance magnets, increased manufacturing efficiency or productivity
- Circular Supply Chains: Innovation in collection and sorting of REE containing products, novel and sustainable routes for processing recovered rare earth materials, safe and economical recovery of high performance magnets, materials provenance and sustainability models
- Materials: Novel materials for high-performance magnets, substitution for high-performance magnets, cross-disciplinary mine to magnets approaches for materials identification
