Overview
In preparation for the upcoming Farming Futures (Automation and Robotics) funding competition, which was shared in this Defra announcement on the 24 June 2026, this online consortia building event is for innovators who want to apply for funding to work on collaborative R&D projects around automation and robotics. Funding will be available for innovative projects that will provide real impact and benefit to farmers, growers and/or foresters in England through Defra’s Farming Innovation Programme, delivered in partnership with Innovate UK.
Project ideas should aim to transform automation and robotics in agriculture to drive productivity, profitability, quality, sustainability and welfare, and provide solutions that will overcome the shortages of skilled people and reduce the reliance on seasonal labour in the sector.

Up to £20 million is available for this funding competition. Projects will have a duration of between 12-36 months, and a total project cost of between £500,000 and £2.5 million. Projects must be collaborative and led by a UK registered business.
This competition will open on the 3 August 2026 and closes on the 30 September 2026.
