Overview
The goal of Global Alliance Africa’s Open Innovation intervention is to help African companies find innovative solutions to technical problems that their traditional supply chains cannot solve. We do this by promoting cross-sectoral innovation transfer from organisations beyond their usual supply chains. Using our bespoke platform, we run Innovation Exchange Challenges to match real industry problems for large businesses with innovative companies or academic institutions who can provide novel, market ready solutions to those problems.
BHN Logistics (part of Tolaram Group), is a leading logistics and hauling service in Nigeria, with a fleet of 1,600+ heavy trucks in operation, consuming roughly 2 million litres of diesel every month. Their goal is to have a completely diesel-free fleet within 6 years to help reduce emissions.
About the challenge
This Open Innovation challenge, delivered by the Global Alliance Africa project, is supporting BHN Logistics (part of Tolaram Group) to find innovative solutions for reducing emissions and cutting operational costs of their diesel truck fleet.
The purpose of this challenge is twofold:
- Economic benefits. The price of diesel is no longer subsidised in Nigeria and is an increasingly heavy expense for transport operators. Alternative solutions will allow flexibility in fuelling choices.
- Environmental benefits. In an effort to reduce carbon emissions and limit local pollution, moving away from fossil fuels will be beneficial to both staff and the general public.
Up to GBP 25,000 seed funding is available (subject to T&Cs) to the successful finalist/s for this collaboration.
The deadline for this challenge has now been extended to 25 April 2025.
