Posted on: 22/06/2017

Training is essential to skills progression for those choosing a career in the agri-food industry.

A new AgriFood Training Partnership (AFTP) will officially launch on 4th July, at a reception held from 4.00-7.00pm at Burlington House, Piccadilly, London. This event will bring together government strategists and training providers from across the UK to highlight the importance of the agrifood sector to the UK economy. The aim is to exploit the opportunities that exist to develop a professional, accredited and high quality framework of skills progression for those choosing a career in the agri-food industry.

The new AFTP represents the unification of three previous Advanced Training Partnerships РFood ATP, AgriFood ATP and Pasture ATP – that were funded by the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC) and have run for 5 years. Further funding of £1.5M has been provided by BBSRC in order to unify the three ATPs and provide streamlined access to training.

The AFTP includes six core partner institutions: University of Reading, University of Nottingham, Aberystwyth University, Harper Adams University, Cranfield University and Bangor University. It will maintain a close association with Rothamsted Research, NIAB, Leatherhead Food Research and Campden BRI who will continue to assist with delivery of some training. Affiliate partners will also provide some training modules.

You can find out more about the AFTP on their website at www.aftp.co.uk, and you can register for the launch event here.

KTN’s Professor Bryan Hanley currently chairs the AFPT Executive Board.
