Calls for entries to Highways UK’s Intelligent Infrastructure Challenge 2018

Posted on: 25/06/2018

Highways UK 2018 is once again running its Intelligent Infrastructure Challenge at this year’s event at the NEC on 8 November.

Sponsored by Costain and supported by KTN, this is your chance to put forward innovative ideas for intelligent infrastructure and associated transport technologies with the aim of solving the problems facing UK transport.

Short-listed entries will be invited to present at Highways UK in front of a panel of industry experts using a “dragons’ den” style format. ¬†Past winners have included Valerann, Vivacity, Elgin and TomTom, Wintersense and Gaia.¬† You can see past winners‚Äô case studies here and find out what winning an Intelligent Infrastructure Challenge award has meant to their organisations.

There are four categories – safety, congestion, air pollution and cost Рand the organisers are looking for innovative products or systems that will work across the UK road network.  In particular, they are looking for entries that will demonstrate they could:

  • improve the safety of road users and/or road workers
  • reducing congestion and improve traffic flow and journey reliability
  • monitor or control air pollution created by road transport
  • enable¬†greater use of existing road assets, more efficient use of new road assets or simply a lower whole life cost of operations

Entrants must demonstrate that their intelligent infrastructure entry is at the early stages of, or is approaching, field trials and can show a clear response to the category goal.

Those entries that are short-listed to pitch in front of the judges will benefit from being able to network with attendees at Highways UK including representatives from the road transport industry and senior highways clients, free brochure content and a wall display at Highways UK and an opportunity to secure mentoring and even trials from highways asset owners.

More information about the competition is on the Highways UK site.  You can enter via an online form and the closing date for submissions is 31 July.
