Developing a healthy, safe and sustainable UK aquaculture system

BBSRC and NERC are launching a Joint Call in Aquaculture for collaborative research and innovation on 6th December in London.

The Natural Environment Research Council (NERC) and Biotechnology & Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC) have launched a funding call for interdisciplinary research and innovation challenges in the aquaculture sector.  This is part of the UK Aquaculture Initiative which is a joint BBSRC and NERC initiative to support high-quality, innovative research and translation to develop a healthy, safe and sustainable UK aquaculture system.

A key aim of this call is for academics and industry to work together to develop projects that address some of industry’s practical research and development challenges. They are holding a launch event on 6th December in London to provide the opportunity for academics and industry to meet and discuss areas of interest and ideas for proposals. By inputting at this workshop you will be able to ensure that projects developed are relevant to the needs of your company or area.  There will be an opportunity for you to pitch your research needs in a short presentation as well as opportunities to network with potential academic partners for a collaborative project.

Non-academics cannot receive direct funding for this call but it is hoped that by working together with academics on research/innovation projects they will be able to address some of their R&D needs. The type of grants available for academics to apply for are innovation projects worth up to £200K to address aquaculture industry’s practical problems and running for 1-2 years. There are also research grants worth up to £1.2M that bring together expertise from a range of different disciplines and running for up to 3 years.
