Materials Research Exchange 2018 – poster winners announced
The 2018 Materials Research Exchange & Investor Showcase (MRE2018) opened today at the Business Design Centre in London.
Part of the exhibition was a display of 25 poster extracts from graduate research students, and a select panel of industrialists and founders judged the posters, based on 4 criteria:
-       Research quality
-       Innovation, Creativity and Adventure
-       Expected Impact for the Academic Community
-       Expected Impact for the User Community
The prizes, sponsored by the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining (IOM3), were award by Dr Bernie Rickinson, Chief Executive, IOM3, to the following:
-       First prize – Alexandra Groves, University College London
-¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬† Second prize – Stuart Robertson, Loughborough University
-¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬† Third prize – Stefan Szyniszewski, University of Surrey
MRE2018 provides an excellent platform to bring the materials industry together by showcasing the groundbreaking new materials and processes to industry to accelerate the process of taking these through to commercialisation.
Organised by the Knowledge Transfer Network and Innovate UK and supported by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) and the Defence Science and Technology Laboratory (Dstl), MRE2018 showcased the richness of the UK materials research and investment opportunities, providing an ideal opportunity to absorb current trends and take a glimpse of future innovations, as well as building links within the materials supply chain to strengthen the UK materials offer to Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) and end users.
