Pitch your industrial biotechnology and bioenergy products and processes to investors
KTN is partnering with CBMNet and BIOCATNET to organise an Industrial Biotechnology and Bioenergy Showcase and Pitch Event.
Industrial biotechnology (IB) involves using biological resources – such as plants, algae, or micro-organisms – to produce and process materials, chemicals (including pharmaceuticals) and energy. Through the development of bioenergy solutions, it has the potential to reduce dependency on petrochemicals and help the UK to become a low carbon economy.
KTN and two BBSRC Networks in Industrial Biotechnology and Bioenergy - CBMNet (Crossing Biological Membranes Network) and BIOCATNET (Biocatalyst Discovery, Development, and Scale-up) Рare joining forces to provide an opportunity for entrepreneurs with start-up, early stage and growth businesses to increase their profile in front of a national audience of investors. The Industrial Biotechnology Showcase and Pitch Event will take place on Tuesday 12th June 2018 in London.
This pitching opportunity is open to UK spin-outs and start-ups who are seeking investment (seed through to post revenue) and who are working in Industrial Biotechnology and Bioenergy (IBBE).
The deadline to apply to pitch is 28th February 2018.

Apply to pitch
IBBE spin-outs and start-ups can apply to take part in this event, which will provide a great opportunity to meet investors, discuss your business and hopefully take some steps towards getting the funding your company needs.
KTN experts  will help you prepare your pitch in the run-up to the event to ensure that you know exactly what to say and how to say it.
The opportunity includes:
- Live pitching to engaged specialist investors who are interested in investing in IBBE products and processes
- Funded pitch training*
- Raising your company profile at a high-profile event
In addition:
- CPI will choose one or two pitches and provide access to their ‘CPI Innovation Integrator‘ (worth £10,000) free of charge. The Innovation Integrator is a structured diagnostic business tool that provides a snapshot of your company, product, process or technology, and identifies the next actions required to bring it closer to commercialisation.
* KTN will deliver two workshops (Tuesday 10th April and Wednesday 25th April 2018) to help the businesses develop their pitch and investment proposition before the selection day. More experienced entrepreneurs and companies who have had pitch-training can apply to pitch directly on the selection day in May.
Applicants must attend a selection event on Thursday 17th May.  The most promising finalists will give a live pitch to a panel of specialist investors and judges on Tuesday 12th June 2018.

Are you interested in investing in the IBBE sector?
We are also able to offer opportunities for investors to join our panel and access exciting investment opportunities in this new and fast-growing IBBE sector, which is predicted to be worth £12bn by 2025.
A series of short pitches from promising companies at a range of investment stages will be reviewed by you and a panel of investors. There will then be an opportunity for one-to-one conversations at the networking reception.
KTN’s Yvonne Armitage, Peter Clark and Emma Fadlon will be happy to advise on potential pitch applications.
If you would like to discuss other opportunities and support mechanisms for innovation in industrial biotechnology please contact a member of KTN’s Biotechnology Team.
