Denise Goldsmith
Knowledge Transfer Manager - Marine Plastics
I joined the Materials team at Innovate UK Business Connect (formerly Innovate UK KTN) in 2021 and continue to work with all sectors and stakeholders to enable sustainable use of materials through collaboration and innovation exchange.
As a marine scientist and educator, I have extensive experience of anthropogenic impacts on the marine and freshwater environment and champion the importance of healthy oceans to address climate change. My particular areas of interest include investment in plastics circularity across all sectors, microplastics, ocean bound plastics, beach clean plastics, marine litter and polymers in fishing gear (end of life including recyclable, recovered, redesigned, lost or discarded).
I also work within the Textiles & Fashion sector which covers everything from raw materials resource sustainability, manufacturing, dyeing, recycling, end of life, suppliers, consumers, waste reduction through to design and behaviour change (producers, retailers and consumers). My work includes textiles in furnishing and upholstery (commercial and household), E-Textiles – including use in Medical and also Security & Defence sectors and also the impact of the textiles sector on water consumption, pollution and mitigative solutions.
