Thomas Farrugia
Knowledge Transfer Manager - AgriFood
I work in the Agri-Food team in a cross-cutting role, helping Agri-Food innovators develop ideas into impactful businesses, navigate funding opportunities, build partnerships and commercialise products. I do this by applying my entrepreneurial and academic experience and drawing on a broad network of industry contacts from farm to retail, including technology providers and Research and Technology Organisations.
My interests span the spectrum of Agri-Food, and I especially enjoy working with innovations that enable us to do more with less, unlock new markets, and ensure that we can continue to feed people well.
Prior to joining IUK BC, I established my own UK Agri-Food SME after finishing a PhD in Chemistry at the University of Bristol. Over eight years, I developed and executed strategy, built the team, launched and sold products, and raised grant and equity funding, while navigating the challenges of building and scaling an investor-backed company in a rapidly developing sector. Given my background, I understand both the academic journey and the realities of translating strong science and emerging technology into commercially focussed propositions.
If you’re developing an Agri-Food innovation, I can help you think through how to commercialise it, position it for success and explore the right funding and collaboration opportunities.
