A vision of the opportunities for advanced materials: Short ‘vision papers’ from the Advanced Materials Leadership Council

The AMLC has engaged with the Advanced Materials community to consider scientific developments in two primary classes of materials (structural and functional), the opportunities across four priority application areas (energy, health, electronics and demanding environments) and how new approaches in computational design and manufacturing could see a step change in the delivery of novel materials.
The AMLC has authored a series of short ‘vision papers’ on each topic within these three interlinked categories that identify the immediate importance of these areas, where the UK currently has academic and industrial world leadership and where there are specific opportunities for new investment and government policy intervention to achieve maximum impact for the UK.
The AMLC has presented these papers as a vision of the opportunities for advanced materials – whilst recognising that there are other related and important aspects of the research and innovation landscape, championed by other leadership bodies and industry groups that have not been covered. It is envisaged that the AMLC will consider further opportunities relating to additional application areas and opportunities when the need arises.
