Opening remarks from David Spence, Head of Applied AI at Innovate UK, reinforced the imperative of responsible adoption and highlighted the organisation’s ongoing support for businesses seeking to harness AI for sustainable growth.

Debates and Governance

Encouraging reflections and debate on the evolving UK AI landscape early sessions featured dynamic discussions on maintaining the nation’s competitive edge in AI while ensuring broad access to emerging technologies.

Keynote addresses from Minister Kanishka Narayan, Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State (Minister for AI and Online Safety) Gary Cutts, Executive Director for Digital and Technologies at Innovate UK, and Professor Charlotte Deane MBE, Executive Chair at EPSRC, emphasised the fundamental role of governance and risk management. Their talks set the stage for the day, highlighting the importance of governance and innovation in shaping the UK’s AI landscape, and providing valuable perspectives for the sessions that followed.

The showcase reached its conclusion with a compelling session dedicated to sectoral impact, featuring BridgeAI recipients from agriculture, creative industries, construction, and transport and logistics. These leaders shared stories of transformation, illustrating how BridgeAI support has enabled them to integrate AI solutions that drive efficiency, sustainability, and innovation. Their experiences demonstrated measurable outcomes, including improved productivity, reduced environmental footprints, and expanded market opportunities. The testimonials offered concrete evidence of AI’s capacity to create new jobs and invigorate key sectors of the UK economy.

Year three annual report

The BridgeAI programme also released its year three annual report at the showcase, highlighting continued progress in accelerating safe and responsible AI adoption across the UK. To date, the programme has supported over 5,000 organisations, allocated £74.6 million in grant funding, and facilitated more than 1,700 AI skills courses. The report showcases impactful case studies, co-investment success, and the vital role of both generative and traditional AI and Machine Learning in transforming industry.
