Sustainable chemical supply chains
Launched in 2025, the Sustainable Chemicals Innovation Network (SusChem IN) brings together industry, innovators and researchers. The network had an initial focus in supporting the sustainable carbon ambition published in August 2024 and addressing the defossilisation of chemicals. The network focus also expanded to explore how UK SMEs with innovations in sustainable chemicals can continue to scale towards commercialisation and stay within the UK. The work in these areas is still ongoing but with an increased attention on developing new resilient supply chains that will enable growth in the key sectors identified in the UK’s Modern Industrial Strategy.
The Sustainable Chemicals Innovation Network aims to deliver insights, networking events and webinars to connect the sustainable chemicals community, address shared challenges and highlight the role of sustainable chemicals in delivering adaptable and high-growth supply chains within the UK.

Sustainable carbon ambition for the UK chemicals industry
The chemicals industry is inherently carbon and energy intensive and uses fossil resources as both a fuel and as a feedstock – contributing to both fossil-derived production emissions plus release of embodied fossil carbon at end of life. Innovate UK have worked in partnership with senior leaders from industry and academia to create a Sustainable Carbon Ambition for the UK Chemicals Industry.
