Process automation of black soldier fly larvae production
About the project
UK-registered Partner: Branch Robotics Limited – Sam Gueterbock
Africa-registered Partner: Sanergy – Walid Kamal
BranchRobotics, a company specialised in developing novel automation solutions in the agri-tech sector, partnered with Sanergy to develop an automation strategy for their BSL (Black Soldier Fly) and compost production process. The Innovate UK Travel Grant enabled BranchRobotics to visit Sanergy’s site in Nairobi, Kenya.
During the visit, the team from BranchRobotics was able to work closely with Sanergy’s engineers to understand their processes, challenges and needs. As a result of this collaboration, BranchRobotics proposed several automation applications in several different areas of the production process that have the potential to improve the efficiency and quality of Sanergy’s production processes while reducing their operational costs. This included a detailed proposal for the development of an autonomous mobile robotic system for monitoring the growth conditions during production and a mechanised system for sorting and moving the compost and BSL larvae.
This collaboration has opened the doors for ongoing collaboration with Sanergy to assist with the development and implementation of the proposed systems.
