Smarter business, stronger region: how Mid and East Antrim is turning net zero into growth

Home to vital energy intensive industries, from logistics to pharmaceuticals and advanced manufacturing, Mid and East Antrim is helping local businesses stay competitive in a low carbon future.

Led by the council, the MEANZ Business project supported 400 firms to explore how cutting emissions can also cut costs, boost investment and drive innovation.

Through practical webinars, decarbonisation tools and peer learning with pioneers like JCB and HyDeploy, the project tackled common blockers such as skills gaps, data access and unclear planning.

A dedicated Net Zero Manager helped link council teams with local businesses and embed the capability to keep progress going beyond the project.

The result is a stronger, better connected local economy and a replicable model for how industrial regions can turn the net zero transition into an opportunity for growth.
