Developing low-sugar vitamin gummies to reduce the risk of chronic illness
As a doctor in a general practice, Haweya Abdikadir often sees patients with chronic illnesses, partly brought on by poor diet and lifestyle choices.
Haweya started to explore how nutritional products could give patients a broader range of healthier options. It gave her the idea for Guudvitamins, a nutraceutical brand that sells snackable gummy lines.
The company’s mission is to bring functional nutrition to the confectionary space by using high-quality, innovative and clean-label ingredients. Most gummy vitamin products on the market contain a lot of sugar or artificial ingredients – Haweya’s will have a low-sugar formula that will make them more suitable for those with dietary restrictions or diabetes.
Haweya has been working on the product formulation and is in the process of sourcing a manufacturing partner. She’s looking forward to expanding her network through the Young Innovators programme.
“I’ve been working on my idea for a while and I am now at the stage where I would like to take it to the next level. The Young Innovators Awards was the ideal platform to realise this dream. This platform enables me to interact with leading industry figures and help further my networking opportunities,” she says.
