The problem and opportunity

The traditional cycle of job descriptions, applications and interviews breaks down when applied to temporary work. Businesses face chronic understaffing and struggle to trust who they’re booking, while workers must prove themselves from scratch with every new role and wait weeks to be paid for work completed in a day. Flexible workers deserve the same access to work, trust, recognition and development as permanent employees.

The solution and innovation

Able is the trust layer for flexible work: an AI-enhanced ethical staffing platform where verified workers are offered shifts matched to their skills, live availability and development goals. Matching is pseudonymised, and payment is held at the point of offer to enable same-day pay with zero worker fees. The Women in Innovation award will fund the next generation of Able’s verification and worker development capability.

Market and ambition

Able operates across hospitality and events, working with international and NHS healthcare partners. We are backed by the Mayor of London and the Government’s Connect to Work programme. Our ambition is to define the category as the world’s most efficient and trusted staffing platform, solving understaffing end to end.

Founder perspective

Alexandra Wright was previously Vice President of Corporate Strategy at BlackRock and Manager at Deloitte, delivering HR transformation for global clients. She founded Able after seeing brilliant, capable people shut out of good work by badly designed hiring processes. She is passionate about ethical AI that widens access to work.
