The problem and opportunity

Insuring a factory, a fleet or an energy project is nothing like insuring a car. Each risk arrives as up to a million words of plans, surveys and reports, full of subtle clues to how well a business is really run. No human can measure them all consistently, and today’s software captures only a few dozen data fields. Unable to measure risk consistently, insurers price for uncertainty, increasing the cost of the projects the economy depends on.

The solution and innovation

Fluence measures what those words reveal. The Fluence Engine tests millions of tiny language patterns against the insurer’s own record of past losses. It reveals risk signals no reader could assemble, highlighting which risks look better or worse than their price. Fluence measures risk; underwriters make the decisions. Tested blind on real portfolios, it earned a place in Lloyd’s of London’s innovation lab and the AI Implementation Award at the Insurance Insider Honours 2025.

Market and ambition

Fluence sells to large insurers covering the world’s most complex risks, starting in the Lloyd’s market. The first carriers are under contract, with demand exceeding available places. Within three years, Fluence aims to be the industry’s standard measure of underwriting quality: the credit score for insurance.
