The problem and opportunity
Fine particulate matter (PM) is extremely damaging to human health, causing chronic diseases such as asthma, heart disease and stroke, and many untimely deaths. In London, 33% of urban PM pollution comes from road transport. Brake dust is particularly harmful to humans due to its fine size and metallic nature. Upcoming Euro7 regulations will regulate non-exhaust emissions (NEEs), introducing strict new limits on automotive PM emissions.
The solution and innovation
GoRolloe’s core automotive technology is a hardware device that is retrofitted to HGVs and buses to capture brake PM at source. The device works completely passively, meaning it requires no motors or additional energy to operate. The technology can be used on new and existing vehicles, with no modification to the vehicle. It uses reusable filters from which captured brake dust can be recycled into new braking components.
Market and ambition
Our target market is European vehicle manufacturers who need to comply with emissions regulations. Our beachhead market is trucks and buses, with later expansion into light commercial vehicles. GoRolloe is in trials with vehicle manufacturers and obtaining external validation. The product aims to reach market within 1-2 years.
Founder perspective
Design Engineer Kristen Tapping established GoRolloe with a vision to improve air quality and human health in urban areas by removing dangerous airborne particulates. She has a background designing car interiors, design for manufacturing, and integrating products into the transport supply chain to create maximum impact.
